Lean
Lean is a way of thinking about creating value for customers with less waste and less resource-consuming processes. Lean is also a practice aiming to achieve creating value with zero defects and no waste. Thinking and practicing goes hand-in-hand through incremental improvement of the current state by applying Plan-Do-Check-Act cycles through iterations. Lean builds on establishing meaningful KPIs which measure outcome. In the Lean Start-up movement those KPIs could be explorative nature but still establish a causality between measured effect and objective. Lean drives strategy into execution by prioritizing the essential work; Lean is the art to decide what is the least amount of work required to be performed at a time to manage product development risk appropriately. Lean uses statistical methods to validate the measures and effect size. It aims to reduce variability and thus increase the flow of work. Lean as a systematic approach to improving manufacturing efficiency was first described through the Toyota Production System.
